Update #2 (AKA HAHAHA 9 hours left and I don’t even)

So I’ve been working hard to get this UI interaction shit to work. I have like less then 9 hours left. Guess what.

Forget about it XD I’m going with the old style of underlining the First letter in the buttons on screen and having the user PRESS that letter on the keyboard. If I do that I can probably finish this thing and finally be happy. It’s been a dream of mine to upload a finished game to ludum dare. Seriously.

Anywho, this quick update was brought to you by anger and depression.

Ludum Dare #25 Update 1 (AKA Wow. I’m loving this.)

Heyo heyo heyo.

I’ve made some good progress in the graphical area of my ld entry. Time to outline what the game is going to be :D

I’ve dubbed this game “What a World.” I’m not sure why though. You play as an anonymous leader of a group of toughnecks trying to make an impact on the world. In a bad way ;D You’ll be able to choose 3 or 4 people for your crack team in the game. Each will have there strong and weak points so you’ll have to choose wisely.

Once you have your team you will be able to do missions to build up influence in the world and to make your crew better. The missions will probably range in awareness. The more the world starts noticing your deeds the harder it’ll get to do missions.

You win when you conquer the world idk maybe.

It should be a nice little game to play. Also, you get some crazy choices for a crew. I may even make it a random selection.

  Here is the crew: Diggums, Billie, Bones McCoy, Katz, Brutus, Justin, Domnic, and Vel.

When I wake up I’ll be focusing on the main core gameplay aspects. (Mission handling, random attributes, and globals.)

This be Ludum Dare country! (AKA It’s that time again folks.)

So yeah. One of the more spoken of subjects on my blog is of course Ludum Dare. Why? The answer is that I’ve been trying to hone my game making skills to a fine beautiful point. To have someone look at a game I made in a weekend and think “Damn. He’s got spunk.”

If you’ve read any of my LD blog posts, you’ll notice that I’ve been fucking up in that department. Either I over-reach a simple game and never finish it in time or some real life drama stuff happens. It’s become something of a bother. Well that’s over.

Ludum Dare starts on the day after I finish my finals. I am currently not signed up for another semester of that nonsense. It has not helped at all. With that outta the way I will not be worrying about it. Also, everything in my life that DOES NOT involve game dev can go somewhere else for a weekend. I’m going for full frontal focus for this.

I’ll be using LibGDX as the framework for my Java-based game. The graphics shall be made from Aseprite. The music shall be done (terribly) in SunVox. The sound effects in SFXR/BFXR.

Now I have 2 days to make myself fully ready. Shut out any emotions that will conflict with Ludum Dare, any people that will conflict with Ludum Dare, AND any problems that will conflict with LUDUM DARE!!!

Anywho, good luck to any cool peeps that will be doing this aswell.

October Challenge AKA Make a game, Market it, ????, Profit

     Each year, Ludum Dare sets up an October Challenge that is there to test our metal and get outta our indie game dev shells. For this year, the challenge is to make a game, market it, then make $1 off of it. Now when I read this, I got frightened and excited. Why, you may be asking right now. It’s because I’ve never sold a game for money, let alone made a game sell-worthy.

     Now why am I excited? This is the kick in the lazy pants that I need. Ludum Dare has always been able to motivate me in a way. So with this challenge issued, I accept.

I will make a game.

I will market it.

I will make a dollar off it.

I am an independent game developer and it’s my time to show it.

LD24 Update #2 AKA I was a cat once

I’m getting the game structure down the way I want it. This game will probably only have 6 levels. each a different major city. I’ll be coding more later and working on the art A LOT. Not bad progress for the first 7 hours.

Ludum Dare #24: Update 1 AKA The Kittehs strike!! :O

For my first update since the beginning of Ludum Dare #24 I’ve figured out my game plan and statred on the simple stuff first. The game will be called Kitty Monster Rampage. Think of the old Rampage games except you’re a huge kitten :P It’s going to “evolve” into more monster then kitteh as the game progresses. This is gonna be fun :D

Update time aka A week till Ludum Dare, act busy!

So I thought I would update my progress through this crazy indie game scene. I’ve been fiddling in Flashpunk and trying to get pixel art contracts. I did land one contract and it feels great. Finally getting out there and all that. I’ve also been chatting with a whole lot of interesting game dev types.

Now I’m trying to make a quick game as a warmup before Ludum Dare #24. I’ve really only been steadily programming in java for a year and a half and it shows. I’ve read books and looked at code, but my practice desires attention. Chances are that my LD entry will suck badly. It’s okay. It doesn’t matter if I fail or make it. It’s all practice to my career. So I accept it openly. Once again my blog will be busy with Ludum Dare.

Ludum Dare is right around the corner

As the title says, It’s almost that time of the year again. Ludum Dare #24, on the 24th of August. I will be ready. I’ve been trying to keep myself busy with my gamedev work. There are improvements I can do and logic that would help, but I’m not discouraged! I’m gonna submit a working game for this Ludum Dare. No matter what.

My game officially works (For now)

Okay #LD48 I’ve been playing with the Marte Engine for the past day now and have a working demo. no gameplay though. I just have it working with simple collision and movement with image rendering. screenshots being uploaded now. Now to make a real game outta it! xD
